It seems that everywhere you look, politics in America has the whole world on the edge of their seats. Not only is it touted to be a monumental election featuring two very dynamic and very different candidates, one vice-presidential candidate has been getting her fair share of the limelight as well. This candidate is none other than Sarah Palin, the heretofore unknown Alaska governor who was suddenly thrust into the frontline of the consciousness of everyone who has been following this election saga.

Sarah Palin has her moments, but in almost every picture since she first came out, she has been sporting the ubiquitous updo. Now, seeing updos on celebrities who tread upon the red carpet is hardly surprising, but the simple fact that someone as busy as Palin, who has her gubernatorial duties, her ‘hockey mom’ duties, and the rigors of the campaign, could sport an elegant updo gives hope to women everywhere.

How does Sarah do it? The answer is simple: choose a quick and easy updo to wear. Busy moms usually start their day early to cook breakfast, get their kids ready for school, and get themselves ready for work. The latter is often neglected. But this need not happen any longer. Here are three quick and easy updos that would fit various hair lengths and textures.

For short-haired moms, it’s best to find accessories that would help you pull your hair back. One such accessory is an elastic band with teeth attached to them. You can style your hair in such a way that it will produce very fine curls, and use this band/comb to push your hair towards the crown of your head. This is already a simple but very elegant updo, and it wouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes (minus the time it takes for curling) to do. You can simply leave the rollers in your hair as you prepare the kids’ meals and wake them up.

For medium-length hair, prepare it by curling as well. Pull half of your hair from your face and secure it with a rubber band into a half-ponytail. Take the rest of the hair into your hands, twist it, and pull it upwards. The curls should now be visible from the top of your head. Secure with bobby pins.

For moms with long hair, gather your hair into a low ponytail at the top of your nape. Using two fingers, take one third of your hair from the top of your ponytail and gently pull. Make sure that the curl you made doesn’t droop; secure it with bobby pins. Split the remaining sections of your hair into two and roll each one towards the ponytail. By doing so, you produce two other curls that sit directly beneath the first curl you made. Secure the new curls with bobby pins and finish by spreading the curls around your nape.

For busy moms, nothing is more valuable than time. Don’t spend longer than necessary in styling your hair. Sarah Palin and other high-profile moms around the world have discovered how to look beautiful even while having so much on their hands. Why not show them that you can do it too?
About the Author: Read more about this and other topics related to ebay coupons

A couple of weeks after my wife delivered a beautiful baby boy, my wife’s eyes were swollen from crying and she was groggy from being sleep deprived. I knew I needed to do something to help her so I brought out the cans of formula milk. Was I doing the right thing with introducing formula when my wife was trying hard to breast-feed? As a physician, did I not know better?

Breast-feeding clearly has tremendous benefits for the baby and mother. Breast milk contains antibodies and macrophages that help the baby fight infections including influenza, pneumonia, German Measles, Staph infections and many others. Sucking allows the infant to develop better facial muscles and might even help develop better teeth. It certainly keeps the child from getting exposed to contaminated drinking water.

Infants get psychological benefits from being close to their mother. In one study, infants could distinguish between the smell of their mother’s milk verses someone else’s milk. One-week old infants tended to turn towards their mothers milk more than unfamiliar smells. Breast-feeding involves close contact with the baby, which provides bonding and comfort for the baby.

Then why did I bring out the formula? My wife, Shruti Bawa had tried hard for the first two weeks to feed on demand. That often meant feeding the baby every two hours through night and day. My mother-in-law flew in to help and took care of several chores so my wife was able to focus on feeding the baby. Yet, Shruti was so exhausted after two weeks of round-the-clock nursing that she was starting to break down.

It is commonly said that a baby should not be exposed to a bottle for the first couple of weeks as it might confuse the baby. Therefore, my wife was very careful to breast feed exclusively for the first two weeks. When the two weeks were done, I was anxious to supplement with formula. I felt that she needed a break and uninterrupted sleep for a change.

I also had my own selfish reasons. I wanted to be able to feed the baby and bond with him as well. I would joke with my wife that she should give me one of her breasts so I could feed the baby as well. She was so sore and tired that she responded, “take them both, they hurt so much!” We all laughed at this.

When we started feeding with the bottle, we were worried that the baby would have trouble going back to the breast. Surprisingly, the baby actually got better at breast-feeding when we started the bottle. He learned from the bottle how to suck and that biting down did not help the flow. Practicing with the bottle, made the real thing a lot less painful for my wife.

Prior to the formula, I used to say that I was the “output manager” and my wife was the “input manager.” I was in charge of all outputs that came from the baby, including burping the baby and changing diapers. But when we were finally able to use formula, I was able to bond with the baby and feed him as well. My wife was able to get a full night’s rest and she was back to her cheerful self. She still breast-feeds but when she needs a break, we supplement with formula. The best of both worlds in my opinion!

Perhaps we should be a little more understanding with new mothers and allow them to give formula once in a while during the first two weeks as well. It might allow the tired mother to get a good night’s rest for a change and would allow the father to bond with the child. The child might even get good at breast-feeding by practicing on a bottle…
About the Author: Read more about this and other topics related to build a business

After having either a hip or knee replaced, getting the required amount of sleep in those first two to three weeks after the surgery can be a daunting process. You will find that you slept better when you were hospitalized then when you return home and the reasons are many.

One reason was that you were better medicated. medication schedules for the most part are better regulated then when you arrive home. Many patients will either postpone taking their medication for pain or forget altogether. You are less distracted at the hospital in regards to family and friends you find you will rest better in the hospital then when you arrive home.

Now there are cases however where this is not always a fact. It will depend on your experience at the hospital some of you may feel much better in your own bed. Something however will change when you get home causing the replacement to create more discomfort and in turn reduce your sleep.

I find the patient that has had a knee replaced will suffer more then the hip replacement patient as having the knee replaced is more painful. keeping the knee comfortable during the night is something that you have to work at. The knee will wake you up at night as it starts ache and you will develop muscle spasms once it has sat still for awhile. The trick here is when you wake up to start moving the knee as soon as possible and you will find the pain will relieve itself.

Here are several things you can do to help yourself get a good nights sleep after returning home after joint replacement surgery.

1. Be sure not to complete your last set of exercises right before going to be. I suggest you do your last exercise session roughly two hours before going to bed.

2. Be sure to take your pain medication before going to sleep. I found this to be helpful in my case and it will help relax you and begin to decrease the pain at the surgical site.

3. Keep your room cool and comfortable. Have found many patients that have tried to sleep with the room temperature higher then normal due to the fact they are not active and feel cold to begin with. Having a room temperature that is higher then normal will keep you uneasy and tossing and turning as well. Use a temperature that is comfortable to you.

4. Monitor you overall workload during the day. Many people when they get home begin to get involved in to much around the home. Remember these joint replacements will not let you know you have done too much until later that night and the next day. By over doing things around the home more exercises then has been prescribed or household chore will also cost you a good nights sleep.

After getting home and re-established, you will find your sleep patterns will begin to get back to normal within two weeks. The first two weeks will be hit and miss. this is something I have found of course that will vary from patient to patient. Sleeping will be a challenge when you first arrive home so try and prepare yourself accordingly.
Read more about this and other topics related to mom rox

If you often get sore after working out and were wondering how you can either prevent this or minimize this, then read the following to learn how to get relief immediately.

Your muscles get sore for 2 reasons.

Reason number 1… soreness is due to microscopic tears in your muscle tissues. What happens is this… you damage the muscles and then the body goes about rebuilding and repairing the damaged muscles

The second reason is due to a build-up of lactic acid (muscle waste product) in the muscles.

So knowing that, what can you do? Here are a few things you can do to help prevent and minimize muscle soreness…

Take alternating cold-hot showers after your workout. Researchers working with Russian Olympic athletes have found that alternating cold-hot showers work great for preventing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). Alternate the cold and hot water in 20 second intervals for a few minutes. That’s it. Do 5-10 minutes of light cardio (stationary bike riding) immediately after your workout. This helps to flush out the lactic acid wastes from your muscles due to better circulation of your blood and lymphatic systems. Get a massage. Again, this helps with blood and lymphatic circulation… which aids in eliminating the lactic acid out of your muscles. Take fish oil pills 2-3 times a day with meals. Fish oil contains Omega 3 healthy fats. These fats work great at reducing inflammation in your body… specifically the fat called EPA.

So there you have 4 ways to help prevent or reduce the amount of muscle soreness due to exercise. By doing them, you not only will minimize soreness, you’ll also help your weight loss and muscle building progress.
About the Author: Read more about this and other topics related to wordpress themes

Here’s a great circuit designed to burn the fat off, get the heart rate up, get you lean and mean for the green. Previous articles I’ve written discussed the benefits of integrating kettlebell training into your current exercise regime. Kettlebells are now being used regularly by two of the fittest PGA pro’s on tour Tiger Woods, and Camilo Villegas. The kettlebell is a cannonball looking chuck of cast iron with a thick suitcase handle on it that Russian society has known as long as vodka. The kettlebell, although it has the look and feel of a weightlifting exercise, think of those enormous Olympic athletes in clean and jerk competitions as a visual, is more about repetition and touted as delivering all-around fitness. Attempting a few sets of clean and jerks will certainly be proof of this.

This is probably the reason why they are experiencing a revival, and of course being tweaked and tailored to a golf swing. Check out the following routine. This routine can be performed 2 to 3 times a week for 4 weeks. We’re using three different exercises here, the swing, the get-up and band side rotations. Every 30 seconds you will change hands after 60 seconds you will change exercises.

So for example perform one arm swings left hand for 30 seconds than one arm swings right hand for 30 seconds, than get-ups with your left hand for 30 seconds and so on for total of 15 minutes. This means continuous work with little or no rest. If your conditioning is not up to par yet, take a break in between exercises than continue, the goal is keep moving and keep the rest to a minimum.

To perform the one arm swing

1. Feet should be shoulder width apart

2. Squat down and grab the handle with one hand, opposite hand may rest on your thigh

3. As you reach down remember to hinge at the hips keeping your shins relatively vertical, you should feel a mild stretch in the hamstrings

4. Swing the kettlebell between your legs forcefully like your going to hike a football

5. Explosively snap your hips forward straightening your legs

To perform the get-up

1. Lie on the floor, in a supine position (i.e. face up), next to an appropriate size kettlebell

2. Use both hands to press the kettlebell vertical – directly above your shoulder. Once in position, keep your elbow locked, wrist straight, and your eyes on the kettlebell

3. Post your foot close to your buttocks (same side as your working arm.)

4. Allow the weight to drift slightly forward, then push off your posted foot and sit up. It is acceptable to allow your free arm to assist slightly in sitting up

5. From sitting, slowly move to the kneeling position. This can be done a number of ways. The main thing is to move slowly, keeping your working arm perpendicular to the ground and to finish in well supported, 3-pointkneeling position

6. Slowly straighten your torso, than stand straight up

7. Now that the fist half of the KGU is over, simply reverse the steps until you have reached your starting point

To perform band side rotations

1. Take a shoulder width stance grasp the band interlacing your fingers, it should be held at shoulder height

2. Tighten your abs and glutes and rotate from side to side

3. Be sure to have some good tension on the band
Read more about this and other topics related to cms themes

The natural way in which a mother feeds her new born baby, instead of on artificial formulas like cow’s milk is called lactation or breastfeeding. There are many advantages that breastfeeding has over artificial formulas. E.g., the mother’s milk is easier to digest, it prevents constipation, protects the baby from many infectious diseases. The benefits also include:

1) Promotion of healthy oral development.
2) Bonding and skin to skin contact between mother and child. Etc.

For the mother, the benefits include:

1) It reduces the chance of hemorrhaging from placental site.
2) An opportunity to rest
3) Encourages the contraction of the uterus, thereby returning the womb to the pre-pregnant size.

However, there are also problems that are associated to breastfeeding as well. Below, we will try to shed more light on the most common breastfeeding problems and also try to proffer some solutions to them.

1) BREAST ENLARGEMENT: After delivery, prolactin will be released from the anterior pituitary, and this is what promotes the secretion of milk. Usually, this occurs between the third and fifth day after delivery. At first, the breast will to be very full, heavy, hard and eventually becomes tender. The reason for this is because of venous and lymphatic oedema and engorgement. Because of high intra-mammary tension, milk producing cells will cease production and the milk ejection will be inhibited. This problem can either be severe or mild. It leads to cracked nipples and if sucking is allowed, and the baby cannot grasp the areola because the sucking here will be painful. Massaging and the expression of colostrums prevent breast engorgements. But if this eventually occurs, the treatment will be easier. Tension can be reduced on the breast by manually expressing little milk before breastfeeding, and emptied by same method after breastfeeding.

Using not too hot water to wash the breast before breastfeeding, also, using firm brassier to support the breast after breast feeding equally helps to reduce tension from the breast. If the engorgement is severe, the above methods are not allowed because they are painful. Rather, the woman should use some analgesic. Some doctors may equally prescribe large doses of stilbesterol, but this is not effective in already established engorgements. Rather, this therapy ( stilbesterol ) is best used for prevention, and best if given one hour before delivery and 24 hours later. It is not advisable on a mother who delivers through cassarian section in order to avoid thromboembolism. In order to suppress prolactin production, high doses of pyridoxine can be given daily.

Six pack abs are usually associated with bodybuilders and fitness competitors, but anyone who is willing to make changes in their exercise routine and diet can achieve a toned and trimmed six pack abs too.

Back pain can be greatly decreased when the excess belly fat you have been carrying is reduced. Six pack abs are strong muscles and will absorb impact, strain and stress from any physical activity, which means you are less likely to be injured and your joints will enjoy greater longevity if you take the time to train your midsection.

A smaller waistline (according to medical studies) may help you avoid unwanted illnesses. Your posture will naturally be improved as your abdominal muscles become stronger. Your toned tummy can also do wonders for your self esteem.

Abs are made up of four main muscle groups. Each of these need to be properly trained to have a strong core and for to achieve six pack abs.

1. Rectus Abdominis – This is the “six-pack” muscle. It runs down the front of the stomach and serves primarily to flex the abs.

2. Obliques – These muscles are located on each side of the waist and are affected by movements such as rotation and lateral flexion.

3. Transversalis Abdominis – Located under your Rectus Abdominis, this muscle group serves to suck in your tummy (compress the mid-section).

4. Erector Spinae – These are muscles located in the lower back area and help to extend the abdominal area.

5. Serratus/Intercostals – These are the fan-shaped muscles located right above the rib cage. When toned, this group of muscles gives abs a defined, finished look.

There are three areas on which to focus in order to achieve six pack abs: cardio, nutrition, and abdominal exercises.

Cardio sessions are critical to achieving a great set of six pack abs. Abdominal muscles can be toned, but if there is a layer of body fat covering them, it won’t matter. Burning off excess body fat through intense cardio sessions at least three to four times a week will ensure that your toned abs will make their debut. Activities like jogging, hiking, running, swimming, jumping rope or the elliptical will get the heart pumping and give great results. By incorporating cardio, you create a calorie deficit and the fat will start to reduce, not just from your midsection but from all of your body parts.

Nutrition is key when it comes to developing six pack abs. Choose healthier options such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein. Avoid refined sugars, flours, and pastas. By eating five to six small, “clean food” meals daily, your metabolism will increase and burn more fat. Don’t skip meals! Try to space your meals evenly throughout the day so hunger doesn’t hit you unawares. Drink a gallon of water every day to flush toxins from the body and to aid with digestion and nutrient absorption.

Abdominal exercises are the third area on which to focus your attention when working toward developing six pack abs. Let’s talk about some basic exercises to get you started.

Russian Twist

Sitting down, secure your feet under something very heavy, or have someone hold your feet. Begin by clasping your hands in front of you and leaning back slightly. Focus on moving the trunk only and rotate to one side. Reverse the movement and repeat the same on the opposite side. Repeat rather quickly. If you are advanced, use a medicine ball or a weight to make the move more challenging.

Flat Bench Lying Leg Raise

This exercise works the lower abdominal muscles. If you are a beginner, do not use a weight just yet. If you are more advanced, place a light weight between your feet to make the move more intense. Place both hands under your butt, palms down. Knees should be locked and your legs should be as straight as possible. In one smooth motion, raise your legs as high as possible and then lower them as far as they’ll go.

Lying Oblique Leg Raises

Using a mat, lie on your right side on the floor. Keep your left leg over your right. Put your left hand behind your head and rest your right hand where it is comfortable. In one motion, bring your torso and left leg toward each other, focusing on using your oblique muscles. Squeeze for one count, return to the original position and repeat. Begin with three sets of 16 repetitions each.

Make the commitment to increased cardio, better nutrition and ab exercises, and you’ll see six pack abs beginning to emerge before you know it!
Read more about this and other topics related to vacation planning

A woman can get pregnant when she is nursing. If you want to prevent pregnancy while nursing, you have a few options for birth control.

Sex After Childbirth

It used to be that women were advised to not have sex until six weeks after they gave birth, at their six week check-up. If you feel comfortable with this, then you can wait. However, the vagina typically heals after two weeks or so, and the cervix will also be closed after two weeks. If you haven’t had any complications, you can have sex as early as two weeks after you give birth. Ask your doctor if there are any reasons you shouldn’t. You might not want to have sex after you give birth: a woman’s hormones change dramatically after being pregnant, and sometimes they are not as sexually charged. If you are interested in sex, know that you could be fertile again as soon as two weeks after you have your baby. Be aware of this and choose your contraception wisely.

Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM)

This is sometimes also called the breastfeeding method. This is the method that has some people confused as to whether or not you can get pregnant while you are nursing. If you choose to nurse your baby and to not give your baby other milk, you can postpone your fertility.

This means you feed your baby every four hours (from both breasts). In the night, you have to feed your baby at least every six hours.

You can only use this method if you are nursing and if you haven’t had a period since your baby was born. This method only works for six months after the baby is born, and then you have to use another method.

Barrier Methods

Barrier methods of birth control won’t harm your nursing infant. These include condoms, female condoms, sponges, and prescription barrier based methods. With many prescription barrier methods, you have to wait until six to eight weeks after delivery: these include diaphragms, cervical caps, and shields.

If you are using a barrier based method with a spermicide, be sure that your vagina has healed thoroughly before using spermicide and having sex.

Hormonal Methods

You cannot take a combination hormone treatment (one that has estrogen, or ethinyl estradiol, in it) if you are nursing. This means that you cannot take combination pills, you can’t wear the Patch, and you can’t use a Vaginal Ring. The estrogen will be found in your breastmilk and affect your baby, and will also affect your milk supply.

You can, however, use progestin-only methods of birth control. This includes progestin-only pills, which are sometimes called mini-pills, Depo-Provera, and Mirena, a hormonal IUD (intrauterine device). Many doctors claim that progestins are too large to pass into breastmilk and will not affect your baby.

Other doctors, however, are wary about using progestin-only birth control. Dr. Cindy McClain Pearman, a family practice physician from Knoxville, Tennessee, claims that “Mini-pills and Depo are not supposed to affect [milk] supply, but I have seen it happen often, especially with the mini-pill.”

If you feel uncertain about using hormonal birth control methods, you can always choose another form of birth control, be it abstinence, a barrier method, or a fertility awareness method.

IUDs: IntraUterine Devices

You can use a copper IUD while you are nursing; it will not affect your breastmilk. An IUD is a device that is inserted by your doctor. It means that you won’t be able to conceive until you have it removed by a professional. Often, women who have just given birth report easier IUD insertions.

Fertility Awareness Methods

You can choose to track your fertility after your baby is born. This cannot happen until you have your first period. To learn about tracking your fertility, you will need to speak to an expert: ask your doctor, or local clinic, or women’s group. You will have to abstain from sex on your unsafe days, or plan to use a back-up method.

Having just had a baby can be a magical (but tiring) experience. Family planning can benefit you, your partner, and your baby. Choose the option that seems right for you.

Here’s good news for breastfeeding moms. A study confirms that this healthy habit can reduce a woman’s risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by as much as 50 percent. What’s more, the longer you breastfeed, the bigger the benefits.

This was revealed by Dr. Elizabeth Karlson of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston who studied 121,700 women to determine the effects of hormonal factors in RA. RA is the most debilitating form of arthritis that affects more women than men. The exact cause of this inflammatory condition is unknown but some researchers believe hormones may be involved in the disease.

Untreated, RA causes the body’s own immune system to attack the tissue that lines the joints, causing pain, stiffness, and deformities. While there’s no cure for RA, the right treatment can help patients live long, productive lives.

“Female sex hormones have long been thought to play a role in RA, which is diagnosed in women up to four times as often as in men. RA often develops when hormone levels are changing, such as in the first few months after giving birth and around the time of menopause,” according to Salynn Boylers of WebMD Medical News.

Karlson’s subjects were part of the ongoing Nurses’ Health Study, a sweeping investigation of disease, health, and lifestyle since 1976. Using questionnaires, the team noted the subjects’ reproductive history, paying close attention to potential RA risk factors like age at menarche, age at first birth, history of breastfeeding, use of oral contraceptives, and regularity of menstrual cycles.

They also studied estrogen use in older women after menopause. From this group, researchers singled out 674 RA patients most of whom were middle-aged when they got the disease. They later found that the risk of RA was lower in those who breastfed their babies. The longer breastfeeding was practiced, the lower the risk of RA. No benefits were seen in those who breastfed for less than a year.

“Looking at total lifetime breastfeeding, regardless of number of children, women who had breastfed for between 13 and 23 months had a 20 percent reduction in the risk of RA compared with women who did not breastfeed. Women who had breastfed for at least 24 months – two full years out of their childbearing years – increased their risk reduction to 50 percent,” said Carla Sharetto in Daily News Central.

“The breastfeeding finding was something of a surprise because some studies have suggested that it increases risk. We don’t understand the mechanism behind this completely, but it does appear that there are hormonal changes associated with breastfeeding that are long-lasting,” Karlson explained.

If you are the past the age where breastfeeding is impossible and you already have RA, don’t fret. Many prescription drugs can help ease the pain of RA and reduce its crippling complications. Unfortunately, some of these expensive drugs have serious side effects that are worse than the disease itself. To be on the safe side, use Flexcerin, a non-prescription natural supplement that soothes aching joints, rebuilds and repairs damaged joints, and restores joint mobility and flexibility. Check out http://www.flexcerin.com for more information.
